At The Greatest Smell Ever I create unique scents for people that want to stand out from the crowd. Sometimes there are unusual requests which are always fun to fulfill. This is one of them.
A non-profit named Raising The Village recently contacted me to see if we could come up with a novel solution for a small village in Uganda named Murole. Murole borders on the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, one of the last places in the world where mountain gorillas live. These gorillas are a protected species, and they come across the river to raid Murole’s crops. This puts the village in a tough position and with help from this non-profit they are testing out a variety of ways to deter the mountain gorillas.
One theory that they are testing out is that the Mountain Gorilla’s have been seen to avoid areas that have been sprayed by a Striped Polecat a type of African Skunk. This realization lead Raising The Village to contact me to try to make an extremely potent scent that would help mimic the scent of the Striped Polecat. The scent that I came up with is a combination of both synthetics and natural ingredients that is so powerful that I had to spend some time in the woods myself making it as just opening it indoors leaves a lingering scent.
Although traditionally I try to make scents that are pleasing to the nose…sometimes The Greatest Smell Ever is something that helps people. If you would like to help some people feel free to go over to Raising The Village and Donate. They do a great job of not just helping people in need but giving them the critical infrastructure, tools, and training that allow them to help themselves.
